Tender Ephemerality

Tender Ephemerality.

The title brings together the notions of “Tender” and “Ephemerality” to reflect on the fragility of a woman's body and the fleeting nature of both beauty and fashion. “Tender” operates as a double entendre evoking softness and femininity while also alluding to consumption, highlighting how women’s bodies are often presented to meet societal expectations. Paired with “Ephemerality,” which emphasizes the transience of physical appearance and trends, ultimately framing the project as an exploration of the pursuit of perfection and the impossibility of permanence.

Publication.

The publication unfolds across 3 sections: violent, repulsive, and gentle with each examining the relationship between the body and societal constructs from different perspectives. Starting with “Violent Bodies,” it investigates the historical impact of fashion, from restrictive garments to symbolic pieces that have shaped perceptions of desirability. For “Repulsive Bodies” it shifts toward media and culture, analyzing how women are portrayed through tropes such as the manic pixie dream girl and the influence of the male gaze, while also considering alternative perspectives like the female gaze and expressions of female rage. Together, these sections critique the systems that define and distort the female body.

Womens Narrative.

The final section, “Gentle Bodies,” centers around 24 women artists who reclaim authorship over their narratives, exploring themes of identity, sexuality, motherhood, society, and representation. By highlighting practices that challenge dominant ideals and bring marginalized perspectives to the forefront, this section underscores the importance of visibility and self-definition. Across all three parts, the publication constructs a layered dialogue on the body positioning it as both a site of control and a medium of resistance, shaped by cultural, historical, and personal forces.
